How do I wash and care for a Smith & Warren Flexible Badge?
Instructions to prevent damage and preserve the integrity of your flexible badge.

Proper care of your Smith & Warren Flexible Badge is important to maintain appearance and functionality. Caring for garments with a flexible badge attached is easy. There are a few simple steps to follow when you wash, dry, or dry clean uniforms with a flexible badge attached.
Know Your Finish: Matte vs. Shiny
Before washing, identify whether your badge has a matte or shiny metallic finish:
Matte metallic finishes can be machine-washed.
- Turn the garment inside out and wash using a gentle or delicate cycle in water 90°F (32°C) or lower. We recommend hang drying, but if you must use a dryer, select a low-heat delicate cycle.
Shiny metallic finishes cannot be washed.
- These badges must be removed from the garment before laundering. Exposure to water—especially machine washing—may cause delamination. To prevent damage, shiny finishes are only offered with hook-and-loop backing, so they can be removed before care.
Heat-Press Attachment Washing Instructions
For those polo shirts or bike uniforms with a heat-pressed flexible badge attached, simply turn your shirt inside out before you wash it. Choose a gentle or delicate cycle with temperatures below 95°F (35°C) to prevent damage.
Hook-and-Loop Attachment Instructions
If your flexible badge is attached using hook and loop, care is simple:
- Remove the badge before washing. Then follow the garment’s care instructions.
All shiny metallic finishes come with hook-and-loop backing and must be removed before any cleaning.
Drying Instructions for Your Heat-Pressed Flexible Badge
If possible, avoid the dryer and hang dry your garment with the flex badge attached. If you must use the dryer, use a gentle or delicate cycle and dry at temperatures below 190°F (88°C) to prevent damage to the flexible badge.
What about ironing the garment with a flexible badge attached?
Avoid ironing on the Flexible Badge. Heat can deform or damage the flex badge. You can iron around the flexible badge, but never on it.
Will dry cleaning damage my Smith & Warren Flexible Badge?
Dry cleaning is safe for both the flexible badge and the garment. However, be sure to tell your dry cleaner not to iron on top of your flexible badge as it will damage it.
By following these simple care instructions, you can ensure that your Smith & Warren Flexible Badge remains in great condition for years to come. For any further inquiries or assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
