“As one looks from the top of the badge to the bottom, It is built as Community over Department over Rank over Self with individual integrity being the foundation upon which we are built,”
- Poudre Fire Authority
This quote from PFA encapsulates what the department wanted its new badge to represent. Collaborating with PFA on their custom badge was incredibly rewarding for us. BadgeStudio is about telling your department’s story through symbolism and meaning. PFA engaged with us each step of the way with a clear focus on ensuring each feature on their badge was meaningful to their department and community. Each detail is listed below.
- The Old Firehouse – Represents COMMUNITY and those that came before to create what is established at the PFA
- Horsetooth/Mountains – Strong, Stalwart. When we keep our heads up, we see the Mountains to our west.
- A Strong Border – Protecting those within PFA’s area.
- The Maltese Cross - A symbol of protection. It means that the firefighter who wears this cross is willing to lay down his/her life, just as Crusaders sacrificed their lives for their fellow human so many years ago. Within the Cross is “Poudre Fire Authority” and the date that they were Established.
- Sun Rays – They are a light to their citizens. The rays represent hope, help, and brightness on their darkest days.
- The Colorado Seal below the eye is a Roman fasces, a bundle of birch or elm rods with a battle axe bound together with a ribbon of red, white, and blue with the words, Union and Constitution. The bundle of rods bound together symbolizes strength which is lacking in the single rod. The axe represents authority and leadership.
- An Eagle is added to the design for the upper ranks to represent leadership, strength, and mentorship to those you serve.
